One of the proudest families in Westeros, the Lannisters lacked a Valyrian Steel sword until Tywin Lannister melted down the Stark family sword Ice to make two new swords. The smaller of the two was given to King Joffrey as a gift for his wedding to Margaery Tyrell and was named Widow's Wail. Joffrey only owned Widow's Wail long enough to name it because he died from drinking poisoned wine that same day. The sword sat unused until it was later picked up by Jaime Lannister.
