COBI-2544 - TOG 2 - British Super Heavy Tank
TOG 2 was a British prototype tank produced at the beginning of World War II at the battlefields of northern France. The tank was built to be able to drive in swamps of mud, ditches and craters that would have been caused during The Great War.
When it was realized that this did not exist, the tank was taken out of service and never used. Only one prototype was created and it stands today at The Tank Museum in Bovington, England. The second design that came out of the Special Vehicle Development Committee (nicknamed "The Old Gang" because it consisted of people who had worked on the original British tanks during The Great War) TOG 2 was similar to TOG 1 and retained many of its functions. Instead of the tram arrangement of TOG 1 which - like the first British tanks during The Great War - drove over the top of the hull and back down, the tramway was lower at the return run and the doors were above the tracks. Ordered in 1940, built by Foster's of Lincoln and the prototype was first run in March 1941.
