COBI-2550 - Sherman M4A3E2 Jumbo World War II Construction Model
M4 Sherman, officially Medium Tank, M4, was the most used medium tank by American and Western allies during World War II.
The M4 Sherman proved to be reliable, relatively inexpensive to produce and available in large numbers. It was also the basis for several successful tank destroyers, such as the M10, Achilles and M36. Tens of thousands were distributed through the Lend Lease Program to the British Commonwealth and the Soviet Union. The idea was designated by the British as General William Tecumseh Sherman of the American Civil War. From May to July 1944, the Army accepted a limited run of 254 M4A3E2 Jumbo Shermans, which had very thick hull protection and the 75 mm pistol in a new, better protected T23-style tower, to attack fortifications. Both the Americans and the British developed a wide range of special attachments for Sherman, although few saw combat remained experimental.
