Heinkel He 111

Heinkel He 111 was the German Luftwaffe's main medium bomb aircraft during World War II's first year and is one of Germany's most famous symbols during the Battle of Britain. The aircraft developed from a construction of the interwar period was taken from the main line in 1942 but continued to be produced until the end of the war. This bomb plan was used for tests with rocket boosters, mounted under the wings, to increase the starting weight about 3 tons. The rockets burned for about 30 seconds and they were lit right at the start. The test program was carried out at Neuhardenberg by the pilot Erich Warsitz who later was also the test pilot for the first real jet aircraft.
