A very nice, battle-ready reconstruction of a medieval pot helmet (also called barrel helmet or bucket helmet). The special thing is the extremely complex and accurate chiselling in the front area of the helmet.
The so-called "great helmets" were often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (e.g. skull cap) and were very common throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. Numerous contemporary illustrations (e.g. miniatures) and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria etc. prove the popularity of this helmet type. They emerged in the early 13th century and remained in use until the 14th century.
