The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is an American single-engine, all-weather tactical fighter designed by McDonnell Douglas (now part of Boeing).

After reviewing the proposals, the US Air Force chose McDonnell Douglas' design in 1967 to meet the service's need for a dedicated air superior fighter. Eagle first flew in July 1972 and entered service in 1976. It is among the most successful modern fighter jets, with over 100 victories and no losses in air combat. The F-15 was originally conceived as a purely air-superior aircraft. Its design included a secondary ground attack feature that was largely unused.
