This beautiful Viking sword is a reconstruction of an original find dated to the period between 950 and 1050, and is classified as a type X according to Petersen's typology of Viking swords.
The inscriptions on the blade are a distinctive feature of the original sword, which is now in the collection of the Musée de l’Armée in Paris, France. One side is marked with the well-known inscription of the maker ULFBERHT, a Rhenish bladesmith workshop believed to be one of the first sword marks (with about 170 swords dated to the 9th to 12th centuries, bearing the same inscription +VLFBERHT+ , and found throughout Europe, even as far as western Russia). The other side bears the inscription DUNA + DUNA XX, a supposed abbreviation, the exact meaning of which is still unknown.
