In the Norse pantheon of gods, Baldur was the son of Odin and Frigg (i.e., a brother of Thor and Loki) and as such was destined to rule after Odin. Beloved by all the gods except Loki, Baldur is known for bringing joy to all who associate with him. In Old Norse poetry, Baldur's death is described as a tragedy and a harbinger of Ragnarok.
