Karl-Gerat 040 "ZIU"

 

"Ziu" became the heaviest self-propelled artillery piece that has been in active service. The piece was developed following a proposal from Rheinmetall in 1936. In order to be able to attack the strongest fortifications in the Maginot Line, a strong piece was needed, so in 1937 an order was received to develop a self-propelled piece.
